Description

We are seeking compassionate, reliable volunteers to provide one-on-one companionship to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). As a Companion Support Volunteer, you will spend meaningful time engaging in shared activities, building trust, and helping individuals feel connected and supported socially and emotionally. Schedule is variable and flexible.

Responsibilities:

  • Spend one-on-one time with individuals in a supportive, respectful way
  • Engage in shared activities such as
    • Playing board games
    • Participating in arts and crafts
    • Taking walks indoors and outdoors
    • Converse with individuals in positive trusting way
  • Bring a positive presence by offering emotional support, patience, and kindness
  • Collaborate with staff by checking in about participant needs or preferences, and sharing feedback from your visits

Qualifications:

  • Friendly, patient, and empathetic
  • Comfortable interacting with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging with individuals who may use a variety of communication methods
  • Punctual, dependable, able to commit to consistent volunteer schedule
  • Ability to treat all individuals with dignity, respect, and without judgement
  • Willing to collaborate with staff, caregivers, and other volunteers
  • Background check and training required
