We are seeking compassionate, reliable volunteers to provide one-on-one companionship to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). As a Companion Support Volunteer, you will spend meaningful time engaging in shared activities, building trust, and helping individuals feel connected and supported socially and emotionally. Schedule is variable and flexible.
Responsibilities:
- Spend one-on-one time with individuals in a supportive, respectful way
- Engage in shared activities such as
- Playing board games
- Participating in arts and crafts
- Taking walks indoors and outdoors
- Converse with individuals in positive trusting way
- Bring a positive presence by offering emotional support, patience, and kindness
- Collaborate with staff by checking in about participant needs or preferences, and sharing feedback from your visits
Qualifications:
- Friendly, patient, and empathetic
- Comfortable interacting with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging with individuals who may use a variety of communication methods
- Punctual, dependable, able to commit to consistent volunteer schedule
- Ability to treat all individuals with dignity, respect, and without judgement
- Willing to collaborate with staff, caregivers, and other volunteers
- Background check and training required
